Horse racing is the second most attended sports in the United States. The sport, at least in the United States and North America, dates back to the time when the Newmarket course was established in 1665 in Long Island, New York. From there, the first race was then held under the supervision of Richard Nicolls, the city’s colonial governor. With the success of the course, several other racetacks were built across the country. The horse racing systems for these tracks were different and were dictated by the organizing bodies. The most important tracks built were the Saratoga Springs racetrack built in 1863; the Louisville, Kentucky racetrack built in 1875; and the Belmont Park in New York, built in 1905. This Belmont Park has one and a half mile track and has the largest dirt thoroughbred race track in the world and has the largest grandstand. In the United States, the thoroughbred horse race has a Hall of Fame. This is in Saratoga Springs, New York and it honors the exceptional horses, owners, trainer and jockeys.

In the United States and North America, the races are usually on flat surfaces of dirt, grass or polytrack. The race is usually from 5 furlongs to 1 1/2 mile. Thus, the thoroughbreds are exceptionally good at running long distances. The most important race in the United States is the Kentucky Derby. Other important races are the Preakness Stakes and the Belmot Stakes. These three races are what is known as the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred racing. Another important race is the Breeder’s Cup at the Monmouth Park, which is generally known as the predictor or determiner of the Triple Crown. Horse racing results of the Breeder’s Cups are used as gauge for the horses’ ability. Horse racing tips for these races are valuable commodity. Aside from the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred, there is also the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Pacers and the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Trotters.
